Written after several months in Lagrasse, a medieval village in southern France, the song grows from a simple but increasingly familiar fear: having to leave a slower, more disconnected life and return to the speed of careers, social media and constant digital presence. Rather than treating escape as a fantasy, Oulton turns the experience into a reflection on what modern life asks us to reconnect with.
The track is the first of six singles leading to What I Meant To Say, due November 13 via Frequency. The album extends that interest in nuance, resisting easy oppositions between analogue and digital, art and business, success and failure.
